Write First: A Mini-Camp for Graduate Students

Tue Nov 29, 2016 8:00AM - 10:00AM • The Writing Center

WHAT:  "Write First" Mini-Camp for Graduate Students
WHEN: 8:00am-10:00am, Monday through Friday, 11/28-12/2
WHERE: The Writing Center, 203 Coleman Morse Center

The Writing Center invites you to participate in a week-long writing retreat called “Write First” for graduate students. Come join us for 5 mornings of focused writing time.

The goal of the retreat is to help you establish and reinforce good writing habits so you can make real progress towards completing your dissertation or other long-term writing projects. It grows out of a simple piece of advice that many writers, including Joan Bolker, author of Writing Your Dissertation in Fifteen Minutes a Day have found so helpful: Write first.

The workshop will include some suggestions and resources to help you write effectively, but the most important thing that it offers is time: a dedicated time and place to work on your writing project daily, in the morning when you’re fresh. This workshop will help you get in the habit of writing regularly and mindfully so that you can move through your dissertation project effectively.

The "Write First" workshop meets every morning from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m from November 28 to  December 2 in the Writing Center. We welcome writers from every discipline in the Graduate School and at any stage in their degree process.

Since a primary goal of the "Write First" workshop is to help students develop strategies to write every day, we ask that participants attend every session over the course of the week.   Please register only if you can commit to attending all five morning writing sessions.

Bagels and coffee will be provided.

In order to reserve your spot for the Write First workshop, Register here.

Registration is limited to 20 participants.
